Splendid Tree

This poem was written in Rangitukia and given to a beautiful ministers wife.

We were cutting Macrocarpra trees to plant olives.

Did you feel pain

as we cut you down

Do your limbs feel anguish

as you touch the ground

You once stood splendid

you once stood tall

People used you for shelter

when the rain did fall

I feel your pain

I feel your tears

But your not flesh and blood

so you have no fears

Johnny Appleseed’s have come

Johnny Appleseed’s have gone

certain planters of tree’s

they have now passed on

Do you feel the pain

as we cut you down

I tend to ponder

as you fall to the ground.
